Games I Look Forward to in 2008

I know this is a little late (half way through January) but I figured I would come up with a few games I am really looking forward to on the PS3. Its just a bit of fun so feel free to disagree with my personal comments.

Grand Theft Auto IV - Rockstar Games
It may not be an exclusive for the PS3 but its certainly going to be BIG. With any luck, the extra storage on the Blu-Ray media will provide extra stuff - or at the very least provide faster loading times (I hope) compared to the rival DVD version. Its set in a redesigned Liberty City, has no loading screens during play, more vehicles than ever, more missions, better physics and has multiplayer too, which should be amazing.

LittleBigPlanet - Sony/Media Molecule
Possibly the most anticipated game for the PS3 since a video was shown during the 2007 GDC (Game Developers Conference) Show in San Francisco. Its a beautiful physics based platform game with a very heavy emphasis on user created content. You control a cute little cloth character which has to work their way from the start of the level to the end through various obstacles. Sounds easy, eh? Its multiplayer and best of all, you can upload the levels you make (using the PS3) to a central server for other players to download and rate. Its been delayed before but should now be out in September 2008.

Burnout Paradise - Electronic Arts
I absolutely love Burnout Revenge on the PS2. Its one of the few games I keep going back to periodically to play some more. Burnout Paradise is a reinvention of the game and looks incredible. Its turned into a free-roaming city you can drive around to pick races with people, cause pile ups, pretty much do anything at any time - all without waiting for sections to load. The car damage system is amazing. You can 'crumple' to your hearts content and its all very realistic. It looks like they have re included one of the best parts from previous Burnout games where you have to cause as much expensive damage as possible in enormous pile ups. Although its multi-platform, the PS3 is apparently the primary development platform for this game so it should be extra special.

Haze - Ubisoft
An amazing looking first-person-shooter from the team who made GoldenEye, Perfect Dark and Timesplitters - so you know it will be good. An interesting story where its 2048 and the worlds peacekeeping is done by a military corporation called 'Mantel'. It feeds its soldiers with a combat enhancing drug called 'Nectar', but its not all it seems to be. With features such as 'playing dead' and the ability to cause overdoses on Nectar to send people haywire, its got some interesting twists.

Gran Turismo 5 - Sony/Polyphony Digital
The most recent version of THE best looking and most realistic racing game ever. At the very least we should be seeing Gran Turismo 5 Prologue this year but hopefully the full game too. The Prologue version features 5 tracks and 50 cars and the full game will have online racing and an area to chat which friends and show off your ride.

Tekken 6 - Namco/Bandai
Ooooh baby - do I love Tekken. Since the first one 12years ago (!) on the original playstation I have been a fan of this game and I personally think its the best in its genre. Tekken 6 looks like it will continue to carry the crown. With online multiplayer, more characters than ever, larger multi-tiered battle arenas, day and night fighting and character customization its looking mighty fine. If you wanted to try it out before its released on the PS3, head to your nearest arcade.

Resistance 2 - Sony/Insomniac
The first one was a launch title here, and it has stayed in the charts ever since. A superb single player first person shooter, great two player co-op FPS, and absolutely excellent 40 person multiplayer online FPS. The second game looks even more impressive. This time round it supports 60 person multiplayer, an 8 player co-operative campaign, a US setting (rather than the UK like the last one) but you still play as Nathan Hale, more enemies on screen with better AI, better lighting, shading and texture systems, different classes of soldier to play online with, and an automatically adapting difficulty level - so the game changes depending upon how good you are.

There are lots of other games coming out like a new SOCOM, Fallout 3, Final Fantasy XIII and Metal Gear Solid 4 - but that's enough for now.
